  • All these "Rack your weights" post got me thinking.

Do any of you guys (gals) ever rack most of your weights? For example (and I cant be the only one since I find it like this often) on leg press I'll pull it down to 1 45lb per side if it is early enough in the evening that I expect that someone else will probably be using it again. I only do this on leg press, maybe on a calf machine, hack squat, basically on those pieces of equipment that 90+% of people are going to start out with at least 1 plate. I am sure it sounds lazy but that is not my intention at all, in my head at least I figure I am doing someone a favor by not making them rack up that first plate that inevitably they will need. Before I get flamed I never do this on bench, curls, power-cage, etc. since the likelihood that they won't need that initial weight is much greater.

    Anyone else do this?

Leg press (2 plates) & calf raises (1 plate) are the only ones I condone this with

Yup, I always do on the sled.
That and maybe the hack squat and seated calf raises.

Wow, I was expecting to come in here and get bashed. I think this habit formed from people waiting for the machine always asking that I leave a plate on for them, then it just stuck. After seeing how pissed some people get with those who do not rack their weight (which I fully understand), I started to question if my practice was raising some peoples blood pressure.

Plates don't normally bother me if someone leaves 1-2 on, what pisses me off is when people scatter dumbbells all across the gym or all across the rack. I've seen our gym where everything under 40lbs was gone and there were like 2 people near the free weights, all the other weights were scattered throughout the gym.

I rack everything, all the time, mostly because I don't use machines other than cable stuff, and my 5' wife bitches about people leaving stuff loaded that she can't reach/unload easily.

The primary reason I go to the gym is to move weight and that should also include racking it.

I've started leaving one plate per side on the leg press just because of the "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" mentality. I rack all others clean.
