Wanting to get a cherokee

So i have been wanting to find a 96 up cherokee to daily drive/lightly mod. What are the things i should be looking for? How is the fuel milage? I know it won't be great but can i expect it to be any better than my crown victoria? Is there any particular year that is more desirable?

Also, dont get hung up on options ... you can get most of them at the junkyard cheap, they plug right in.

The only thing i care about is it being in decent shape mechanically and looks decent. I just didn't want to buy a certain year and then find out that was the one year it had "x" known shitty part and i should have gotten a different year... I have wanted one of these for years. Actually had an 89 for a couple months but didn't get to drive it much....

Stick to 98-99 and you will be happy. Did a 2 inch lift and rubicon wheels on my last one.
