You bought it for $4k or intend to be into everything for $4k?
I've been looking at Cherokees (I need 5 seats).
I bought it for 4k. A decent quality TJ my year goes for around $10k. My goal is to build it up and still break even when I sell it eventually.

Looking good. New wheel and tire combo.on the way?
Yeah, looking for a decent deal on some 35" BFG KM2's and I'll wrap them around some cheap black steel wheels. Should give me another 2" of lift, for a total of about 7" over factory. I don't want to go too high because I don't want to roll it again, so as low as I can keep it and still clear 35's.

CJ, what's this motor lift/tummy tuck thing? Are you just lifting the motor with spacer of some sort from the motor mounts? How does this motor lift benefit you?

It lifts the motor up to meet the body lift, so everyone is still aligned the same as factory, and a benefit is your oil pan clearance and transfer case angles are improved for the lift. I only did this because I couldn't clear 35"s without one. Once I gear the rear diff back in I'll see if I need an SYE.

Very cool, I've never heard of doing one of those. Is it just a matter of putting spacers between the motor and mounts or what?

Yes, there are different kits. Mine involved putting a 1' thick aluminum block under the factory mounts. I did the body lift and motor mounts in about 3 hours, pretty damn easy.

I had enough military jeep with my '45 MB. I felt guilty doing anything to do, I ended up selling it to the National Air Museum in Dayton, OH. It's there on display now too, which is pretty cool.
Here is a similar TJ with the same tire/lift combo as I'll end up with, should look relatively similar.

Looks damn good CJ!
I'm wanting the M38 more to drive someone you don't see too often. Take it out on the weekends, take it to car shows, etc. If I can find one I plan to restore as close to military specs as possible while throwing a few updates on it.
