  • Got bored and started my stereo install.

Nothing fancy, just some components and subs.

All a few years old too. Pair of Kicker L7 10" subs, Memphis MClass components, Memphis Sync class coaxials, Memphis 1000w mono blocks (x2), Memphis 3004 4-channel amp, Alumipro cap bank and an Eclipse AVN 5500 (soon to be sold).

So today I got all the power and speaker wires ran and mounted the amp rack, power distribution and subs. Tomorrow I will install the deck and main speakers.

Clean install, but aren't you worried about heat dispersion in those amps by having them mounted upside down like that?

Nope. They run pretty cool. Thats why there are two mono blocks (class D) so that they dont come close to their thermal limits.
This setup was in another Mark VIII in the same spot for a couple years and that car was black. Never had any issues.

Always nice to have to remove 300 lbs of speakers to get at the spare ! As long you are the only one to work on the car its fine. But it kills me when someone comes in to my shop and the wheel lock key is with the spare or we try to help them out and change a flat only to pop the trunk and find out that the reason they cant afford new tires is because they spent their tax refund on a system . not knocking your shit though , just a pet peeve of mine

Nice parts!! Very clean install so far. Just curious, why those subs with those nice ass speakers? Not very SQ oriented IMO running those subs.

Smoke more/less of that reffer Rae. The box with subs weighs 87 lbs. It is also mounted so that the spare tire cover still slides right out and the spare tire is easily accessible.

Actually I am a Boston Acoustics fan. I have a special dislike for Kicker and before this I have never used Memphis equipment.
When I picked up both these Mark VIIIs last weekend the car I decided to resell had the equipment in it.
It was free so I swapped it over cause its 100x better then the factory JBL crap.
After playing with it for a bit it really does sound nice so I kept it.

When funds are not so tight then I will sell the sub box and components and switch to Boston Pro components and a SPG555 sub.

I just finnished mounting everything up and did a test run. Sounds freakin great but a little bass heavy so I am gonna go tune it here in a few.

What are the four clear pieces on the outside? What do they do?

The oval cases with the "M" on them? Those are the x-overs for the speakers.
