I started looking for a dog a couple of weeks ago, so before the week was out, a friend forwarded me an email from an group that highlighted "urgent animals" that were within 24 hrs of being euthanized. Saw a pup that was just so sad I had to investigate.
Went to the irving animal shelter (which is f'ng NICE) and they brought her out into a fenced yard where she immediately did 3-4 high speed runs around the yard before sliding down in front of me and wanting a belly rub. Surprised that she hadn't been adopted, I asked the volunteer and he said i was the first one in a month to let her run and calm down - other people made up their minds in seconds.
Needless to say, I couldn't get the paperwork finished fast enough so she went home with me.
