They don't like the color red. Wrap as much as you can with red colored cloth.
I had a old cooking apron and wrapped it aroud the tree. I also used a red cap from a creamer container and hung a few on the tree with irredescent thin Christmas ribbon.

Sorry folks, that's a yellow-bellied sap sucker. It's a common thing on live oak trees. Wrap the tree with tree wrap. It is not a borer problem.
