None of you guys here have probably ever heard of him, or know anything about him, but I got my Blue belt under Allen Steen MANY years ago. I trained at his Texas Karate Institute all through grade school and up into middle school (back in the 80's).....I trained 5-days a week up until I was in 8th grade....fought a lot of tournements and won more than I lost back then. However life changed with my parents divorcing, Dad moving out of the country, and Mom & I making due in a little ~600sf apt. Which is why I quit...but I kept a lot of that training (and still have some in me) for years following. It made highschool in east Dallas a lot easier, I'll say that.

Would love to get back into it these days...but I am getting to be an old fuck too.

In my opinion, I don't think Gi is more technical, just different. In no gi, you have to have a solid base, play tight, your leverage has to be spot on and have good transitions. With Gi, you can hold on, stall, grab a couple of points to wait it out and win. I personally don't care for sport BJJ at all, it's lame. I prefer the combative part of it that applies to real fighting. Most sport BJJ guys don't know how to defend from getting hit or how to deal with getting hit. I'm all about the finish, I don't want points or judges to determine who wins.

To me, if i wanted to know "real fighting" you dont study something that involves grapples and pins. You study something like Krav Maga where you fucking poke them in the eye and kick them in the groin and grab something heavy nearby to smash their face in and run away before their friends kick the shit out of you, lol.


And to the OP, the kid is good, but seems to be a bit too young to be having the ego to be all swoll up like he is, haha.

However, I would be willing to be that this guy who doesnt need to be named would only be willing to fight this kid if it were stand up rules only, no kicking, no ground game, no submissions of any kind, and would have a bag full of excuses pre-arranged should he lose the fight like all others he has had.
