So I was at work recently in the engine bay of a boat when I got a text asking if I wanted to buy a former co workers old car. So after a few conversations I dropped $300 on this 1997 Mazda 626 LX.
It's not fast or clean, it's got dings and dents all over, the AC doesn't work and for comically the power steering only works to the right. But it get's 34mpg and is comfortable. I had to put front tires on it, and a radio in it, but the tires are crazy cheap, and I paid $50 for an amazon car play radio. I'm sitting at like $505 total investment so far. I need to put a passenger side axle in it (it clicks when you turn to far)
My plan is to fix it as cheaply as I can, while driving it to work saving money on gas, then sell it so I can buy the truck I actually want. But I'm here to say cheap cars are still out there, they are just harder to find.
