I have a HPI Vorza and just bought a Mugen MBX6 Eco. I plan to race outdoor larger tracks like the outdoor track at Mikes and over at Indy R/C indoor track in the winter. I am also going to race the 2011 Southern Nationals in Louisiana in October and a few RC Pro series events that are mainly 1/8th scale races. With that in mind, I am not a PRO..lol

I do plan to buy a AE SC10 4X4 or Losi 4X4 SC once we move to Fort Worth next month so that I can race Mikes indoor track.

    • If you want to get into rc racing go to mikes and watch an talk to some people. I have 4wd hyper 10sc and losi xxx sct for racing. Both trucks are tons of fun. I have a traxxas 2wd with a castle 5700 kv motor with mamba max pro. With a 2s lipo it is nasty. If I were to put it on 3s it would probably run over 70 if I could keep it from blowing over.

      • Does it matter what scale you run? Or are there classes for scale sizes?

I personally would because I know that entry level RC will end up costing more in the end. You spend 600-700 and do it right the first time or you buy a $300 set up, and end up spending $300-$400 over the next few months upgrading things that the better kit came with.

1/10th scale is what you want.

Just a suggestion if you want to start out....
            Losi XXX-SCT 2wd ~$230
            Airtronic's MX Sport 2.4 ghz radio $90
            servo ~ $60 (metal gear)
            2 lipos (2s 7.4 volts) ~$100 (~$50 each probably cheaper)
            lipo charger ~$50

You keep mentioning the Losi stuff, just curious, what's so big about them?

I found this and I think this is similar to what you've talked about

When DFWmustangers go racing as a group, it will be more fun and and more friendly.

I know what you mean though. I raced (well showed up and ran my car) at the RC Pro Race here last weekend. It was a cluster. Everyone, unless you were in the "group" was to good to talk, smile, wave, help or even say hello. I watched as 14 guys were on the drivers stand and not a single turn marshal on the track. I watched people walk over a car flipped over, to get a buddies car back on the track and then step back over another flipped car to get back off the track. I saw "expert drivers" just using their feet to "kick" a car off the pipe because they were to lazy to reach down and do it right. Then stare at the driver on the stand like "you idiot, why would you crash" and shake his head. I saw "expert" drivers yelling at marshals after crashing 3 times on the same lap. The same guy cussed out another marshal after the "expert" driver crashed on his own for 4th lap in the same spot. He thought the marshal was not getting there soon enough, even though his buggy was not even upside down yet. It was hilarious. I really should have got it on video..it would be great video!! Anyway the point is, MANY people take this toy car racing way to serious. It is suppose to be a hobby to relax. I finished last, and had "way more" fun than half the people there. I ran the same set of hard compound tires that I have run for the last 3 weekly races. Some people ran brand new set of "super soft" compound tires every time their car hit the ground. New 1/8th buggy tires will run about $40-$60 for a set of 4.

I would say Team Associated and Losi have the best "racer value" products on the market for 1/10th scale vehicles. I don't own a Losi, but both Losi and Team Associated are the best overall brand names in the hobby.

                      • as far as racing 2wd short course you can't go wrong with the losi xxx-sct or associated sc10. those have the biggest following at the track. most people up there will have no problem helping you out with any tips or tricks

                          This looks fucking sweet.
i want that stang or the ken block fiesta, but there is no class to run them in at mikes.

I know you have been practicing for a while, you should race with the regular 4x4 guys. If you come in dead last who cares, you will have better times I guarantee it.
i have to run it a few more times. at least until i dont come in last

I'll probably take you up on that. Where are you racing tonight?

Where all do you guys go and run them/ race around here? I know there used to be an RC track over in Richardson off Springvalley, sort of behind Papadeaux's and Papasitos.

EDIT: I just found the Mikes Hobby Shop website, place looks very cool.

                            • motoman...if you want to catch some racing from home. Go to LiveRC.com. Mikes broadcasts his events live on that site.
