    god bless.

You shouldn't run in the rookie class. Those guys don't know how to race and you won't get any better.

I know you have been practicing for a while, you should race with the regular 4x4 guys. If you come in dead last who cares, you will have better times I guarantee it.

It starts out like most others. Thinking, I will get in cheap and just have fun. Then it turns into extra parts, tires, better motor, better ESC, better radio, etc. Then it something new comes out and you start over or you start a different class.
What's cheaper to get into, battery or nitro?

Neither....seriously it is close to the same. The difference is, if you want to race inside at Mike's, buy electric. If you want to run long mains and travel to race, buy nitro. I went electric due to a little less maintance and don't need a pit man when I go to the races.

I would say, if you want to get into the hobby cheap. Buy a 2wd SC truck and run stock 2wd SC class. You will not burn tires off as fast, your electronics are not as expensive and you will get a good idea if you want to continue in the hobby. There is a large race coming to Mike's, called the Short Course Showdown so you might want to get started soon so you can be ready!

I literally have a hobby shop just a couple hundred yards from me off Preston. Do the hobby shops typically have units you can test out?

            • Any brands to stick with or stay away from? How long can you run a battery operated one on a complete charge.

I would say most likely not. Most of these (at least the ones you want) will go fast enough that if you hit a solid object, they can break. So test drives are not a good business decision. lol I would say drive over to Mike's or any area RC track and watch others and get an idea of what the local hobby shops support parts wise. If you are going with a short course truck, I would say stick with Team Associated or Losi if you want to race. If you want to play in the back yard, at the skatepark and just thrash on it. Go with the Traxxas Slash if that is the plan. But like a real car, it snowballs into bigger, better, faster.....and it happens fast.

Does the SC Class mean short course class?

Would this be a decent start?

The 1/10 scale Traxxas Slash short-course race truck puts you in the driver's seat for intense fender-to-fender, high-flying off-road action. Bring home the thrill of 900+ horsepower full-scale racing and head-to-head competition to your own backyard.

I have a large scale (1/8th) buggy and can run for about 20 minutes on a charge. A good short course truck can run for 25-30 minutes if set up right. By then it is time to check over things to make sure nothing is coming loose anyway. Also check temps to make sure nothing is getting to hot before you start making long runs. If not, be prepared to spend money sooner than later.

                        Key things...
Lipos batteries are a must (if you want to enjoy the hobby)
2-3 lipos are PLENTY due to run times
Buying used is not always a good idea in this hobby
2.4 ghz radio is A MUST

But if you want to race and have a decent set up I would say buy a Losi XXX-SCT or Team Associated SC10. Just make sure that if you are buying a RTR (ready to run), you know that it will need upgrades pretty soon. By upgrades meaning, better radio, better servo, better turnbuckles, better shocks, etc.
