You are not kidding. I had an 86 that was a race car with a license plate and it was a real mother fucker to daily drive. On a good day it would dip into the 10s but a new Mustang with bolt ons would run the same number with the A/C blasting.

I think all this is awesome. I really do, and on so many fronts. I mean HELL don't you remember when the 03 cobra came out with 400hp and everyone was all, "well enjoy fella's because this is as good as it gets, they will surely shut us down and won't let cars be this powerful." I'm so glad so many people where wrong. Hell I have almost 900 stock hp between my wife's and my daily drivers and the both have heated seats and in dash nav. Shit I can start mine from the damn living room! yet my 300+hp "racecar" doesn't even have defrost.

Funny thing is that people think if they can buy a fast car.....that's makes them automatically a good driver.

I don't think that was a dig at this driver, but Cars and Coffee prove what he is saying.

Yes thanks. Didn't mean this driver.

In general people buy fast cars then end up in youtube car fail videos.

Years ago I watched a guy put a nice vette into the wall at TWS. In the paddock I asked if he was ok. He said too much horsepower. I turned to my buddy and muttered "not enough driver."

I get what you're saying, even the Coyote has enough power to be an issue for a driver that's new to horsepower (plenty of video proof), you no longer have to wrench to get 400hp, making it all that much more accessible to inexperienced drivers. We can't let the idiots ruin it for the rest of us though.

Is there such a thing as a good driver in a drag race?

I can tell you once you have been on a road course then you realize just how "good" of a driver you are.

Haha exactly. On a road course....a good driver can over come a few hundred horsepower deficit to beat those guys that just dropped 200K on a ferrari.

                        Yes, very much so.

So you're saying that anyone with enough money to buy a capable car can go toe to toe with the likes of John Force?

Years back we got a kick watching a guy who rented a Ford Fusion push a cammed cage Camaro around TWS.

                            It was funny as hell.

It was always enjoyable beating smug arrogant chodes with this mindset at the strip. The butthurt would be strong enough for them to leave early and never come back. See what I did there?

Exactly. Many times I've seen a car with a few hundred horsepower more get waxed by bargain bin street/race cars. Hell, Saladbar won a King Street bracket racing event at Ennis with his nearly stock M6 Z28 against cars that were built for that shit. It was phenomenal watching how mad the competition was to see this 20something kid advance round after round.

When did I make a leap that big?

What I will say is that the level of skill in drag racing is not even remotely as important as the level of skill in road racing.

Give John force a 30K new car budget and give any other random guy a 90K budget and I bet they give force a run for his money in less than a month of trying.

Now give Fernando Alonso 30K, then give any of us 90K and we still lose after a month of trying every damn time. We probably lose after 6 months of trying.

You can buy yourself a win in drag racing much easier than you can buy a win in road racing.
