  • Do car manufacturers blatantly rip eachother off?

    ...or is it just coincidence?

EDIT:Kia wins in the looks dept IMO.

Those were both in development at the same time. Design runs in trends like this all of the time, everyone "steals" from each other if you want to look at it that way. Look at the new Sonata and Focus.

I can see that a little bit, but not as much as the Kia and VW. I mean, the entire front end looks interchangable. I do see understand what you mean though. Hell, the new fusion looks almost identical to the old acura RSX IMO.

I'd take the fusion sport over any of the cars posted above including the ones I did. The kia is available with 270hp, but lower a new fusion sport and you have one sharp looking car with a respectable 260hp.

If you think thats bad, you should look at the fucking chinese. Those fucks dont recongize ANY western patent laws.

As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I’ve gathered 10 cases of ultimate flattery in autos here, where the industrial design of one is blatantly copied onto another. Here you go, the showdown of the look-alike cars (and a bus): 1. Daewoo Matiz vs Chery QQ This one was so extreme, some parts of one car fit into the other (e.g. door panel, bonnet etc). 2. Vauxhall Frontera vs Landwind 3. Honda CRV vs Laibao SRV Check out the semi-Audi front logo too! 4. Mercedes C vs Geely Merrie 300 The Geely was shown in an auto exhibition. I don’t think it was eventually produced looking like this though. 5. Neoplan Starliner vs Zonda A9 6. Rolls-Royce Phantom vs Hongqi HQD 7. Smart vs er. Chinese Smart 8. Toyota Prado vs Dadi Shuttle 9. Nissan XTrail vs Greatwall Sing 10. BMW 7 vs BYD F6 For this, … Continue reading

Look at the Hyundai Genesis Sedan, it takes alot of its looks from Lexus and BMW/MB.
Also the Kia Amanti looks like a mix of a MB E class and Jaguar.

I may be mistaken, but aren't Ford and Kia intertwined?

I heard Kia was bought by Hyundai, which has nothing to do with Ford. That's just what I heard though. Ford has been getting rid of extra weight, not adding more.

I think that sometimes it's a matter of a specific styling company or designer being hired away by a competitor following the successful launch of one of their designs. I think that happens quite a bit.

I remember watching a TV program where they said that the team that Ford hired to design the '11 5.0 was the same design team that BMW used for the recent gen M3, and that Ford used that car as a benchmark. So if you hire the same design team and give them their most recent product as a benchmark, you're likely to get something similar. Not saying that is exactly what happened with the M3/5.0, because they are very different cars in a lot of ways, but the program highlighted their similarities, and I was surprised at how much they had in common.

I'd drive a Hongqi just for the name, until the Chinese piece of crap broke down on me.
