That reminds me of the video when the '16 hits a bird and the pilots have to eject.

Just curious, how many hours/years of training does it take to be a f-16 pilot?
    Some cars and a bike...

Some say... they have been raced, some a lot

His engines were dead, but the stick seemed to work.
I'm betting it's an old saying from the wood propeller days. Refering to the prop as a stick, so a dead stick would be a motionless prop! But I'm just guessing.

Good to see the pilot wasn't fazed by the engine trouble, likely due to all the training he had in handling situations just like that, and safely landed without further incident.
That didn't sound like ATC, almost sounded like another flight out there. The only 2 controllers there were an ATC from Washington Center (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washing...Control_Center) and the Tower at Elizabeth City. Tried listening a couple times and he was probably (if i had to guess) an ABM onboard an AWACS.

Roughly 3 years depending on how the training pipeline is. IFS, UPT, SUPT and then F-16 school.

True but typically you will not hear them transmitting on VHF in any North American airspace. They will use the UHF alternative.

Depends. If I go into busy airspace where everyone is on VHF, I'll use VHF so I can hear other traffic.

You monitor VHF or broadcast over it as well? Ive never heard any military on VHF, even when flying through the bravo over DFW

Oh and BTW, how was IFS? I'm headed there late summer-early fall.
