Sorry guys but when I see those things, the first thing I think is - That could have called it a Lumina and I'd have not known the difference. Are there any 2 door ones at least?
That must have went straight on the car hauler and never moved again. If I recall, I read once, they all went on a test before leaving that would put about that many miles on them and if you happened to get one with more they had an issue at the factory corrected and retested or it had simply been test driven at the dealer.
Maybe BroncoJohnny will chime back in and confirm or deny since he worked there and maybe privy to what went on with them after he welded the shit out of them, LOL.
Yes, they roll tested every car at the factory, they would run it on a machine like a dyno and then send it to a repair pool if it had problems. My earlier post where I said I got to drive them after hours at the factory was me driving cars to different areas of the plant where they could be fixed.

What's your beef with NPR, because their listeners are typically more informed than others?

One thing that can be done to stiffen these cars up a bit is to add poly body bushings(but then the rattle increase exponentially) or just put new rubber in them. Some of the Caprices didn't have a few of the forward body mounts to help with that floating couch feel. All of the 9C1's got all the bushings, and I think all of the SS's did too.
The gears will wake these things up like you wouldn't believe, a 3.08 is ludacris in a tub this huge.
One thing I like about it now-a-days is that all these 'sports/pony' cars (Camaro/mustang/challenger, etc...) are damn near as heavy as the SS is. With a little weight reduction, a good motor and a set of gears and you can hang with and possibly beat a stock modern sports/pony car.
Are you going to keep the stock ignition or do a coil setup? If sticking with stock you should at least change up to use a vented optispark. MSD or a Delco reman are your best bets.

I don't get the obsession with muscle cars being two doors. Certain models look damned good as sedans. Set a GTO and an Impala SS side by side and it's no contest, the SS is way better looking. Look at the Supernatural impala and tell me that it's not a badass.
Then again, I've always been a little weird when it comes to styling.

It's got a pretty good ride as it sits. I will probably get around to the body bushings eventually though. I jacked it up and took a look, it still has the 3.08 gears, so it baffles me as to why it's so quick. Has to be the headers, CAI, and tune.
Need to take it's big ass to the track and find out for sure what it's running, cause I swear it's a high 13-bottom 14 car.
It's crazy how heavy modern sports cars have gotten. Bet you an older SRT8 challenger is the same weight as the big imp.

I'm not going to touch that damned LT1 until something goes wrong. All you had to do was look at the LT1 in my vette and something went wrong with it.
LOL. I guess I am lucky. Had opti screws back out at around 35K miles, but fixed that and still have it as a spare. Went 30,000 to 110,000 with LPE heads/cam it until I killed a bearing while trying to stab a cam.

I was just referring to that particular car. Its a little... I don't know, buick-ish. Old lady-ish. Just saying there's a reason the lumina isn't a hot item. If they'd had a 2 door, it may have gone a long way towards improving the look of that particular car, when it comes to hotrodding one.
But yeah there are a lot of other cars that look great as a hot rod 4 door. Just not that one, imo
Bit of an exaggeration but I think you get the idea. Another rounded mom car. Hell look at the newer ones, still the same thing going on. Just not my bag, but hey different strokes and all that..

Nice score on the seats. I always wished they would've offered different colors(darker).
How's the carpet? Mine was replaced under warranty. The carpet wore through on the driver's side foot well on the left where it goes vertical.
You can stiffen the suspension up and center the rear wheel in the well for about $230.
