As a kid, I would go to Camp Shuman with Cub Scouts. This was when it was Carswell. I remember one day in particular having a B-52 come directly over our camp. It seemed to come out of nowhere, and felt like it was 50' off the ground. Still a vivid memory 30+ years later.Comment

We stayed at a motel one time years ago at the south end of the runway near Carswell . It was hard to go to the convention once you saw a few of the B-52's taking off! As best as I remember, the motel seemed to be at a higher altitude than surrounding land and we got a good view of the takeoffs!
A little off subject from the B-52, I never saw this close up of the B-36 nose wheel before lifting.....!

I basically grew up at Carswell. I got a VIP tour of the B-52 when I was a kid, and worked at the base later as a civilian. It broke my heart when the B-52s left. Such an awesome plane.

The B52 was fairly quite compared to the F35 that set off car alarms in the parking lot when they take off with afterburner.
