What a mess. It took me a long time to get the '16 Camaro I got a few months ago and it was because of a general lack of communication between a pretty good dealership and just finding the right car.

I actually found it at another local dealer myself, emailed them about best price and they were a few grand higher than what I could get a similar car (but not the one I wanted) for at my dealer. When I mentioned that, he bluntly replied that was the best they would do on that unit.

Long story short, my dealer ended up trading with that other dealer for that actual car and sold it to me for the few grand cheaper. haha. Sucks to be that other dealer salesman. I thought about emailing the salesman there to rub it in his face, but figured I would take the high road and not do that.

    So, screw dealerships in general..

Not so fast there chief. There is likely a reason there has not been a comparison between the two. It's probably VERY dependent on the track layout as to which one comes out on top.

More so when we got it up on a rack and it looks like it was built in a barn from a chopped up Dakota.

The reason is because nobody gives a crap about a 16 year old Cobra R anymore. No way in hell could it compete with a GT350R in any contest besides wing stability falling out of an airplane.

You might be selling the 2000 Cobra R short. It was kind of a brutal car when it came out. It was gutted and it made more power than advertised. I think with the same wheels and tires as the GT350R it could possibly hang. Would be a cool youtube video to get all the R models together.

Find me a 2000R to run up against. I'll probably be at MSR on the 27th.

the 2015-16 gt350s, not the r's, with the "tech" package cannot even make 15 minutes on the track before the motor goes to limp mode because it thinks the transmission is too hot.

the "track" package cars came with a trans cooler that prevented this. ford changed all the 17 cars to have the trans cooler.

if you want a capable track car, make sure it has "track" package if you get a 15-16 or just get the r.

you cannot compare values on the earlier r's for they were very limited. just over a hundred 93's and i think three hundred 2000's. as said before, there may 25,000 350s

I had a hell of a time buying my RS, which I only started because everyone was crazy fucking pants over the GT350 prices that I refused to pay.

The 2000R I bought in 2009 (#48) was dynoed up at LG Motorsports right after I bought it from the original owner. It was stock (1700 miles). It was around 357 RWHP stock. I put on a set of Bassani free flow Cats/rear exhaust (last one Bassani sold) and a custom Throttle Body and input pipe from air box to TB. With the mods, it was around 385 RWHP. It had the stock tune in it and was running rich.. A similar R with the same mods and a Diablo tune was 404/404. I remember a number od R's during that time were over 400 RWHP with a custom tune and exhaust mods.

We never took it to the drag strip or race track, but it was fun to drive round town. NOT a car to drive in the summer for sure!

^ That's awesome. I would love to add a few Rs to the garage at some point. These are making VERY close to 500 with just a tune. With LTs and a E85 tune they are north of 520. Don't know if I'll go the LT route but a tune might be coming sooner than later.

Stock for Stock...might be closer than you think. Same tire for tire...it could get ugly and NOT in the new car's favor. The lack of TORQUE in the newer ford engines leaves a LOT to be desired on the road course...especially a tighter track. I've played with cars that are 300-500# heavier than my mustang on track with similar power and they leave me like I'm tied to stump coming out of the corners because they have 70-80ft/lbs of torque on me even though I get out of the corner better and have less weight.

It IS something I would like to put to a test though to put my mind at ease!

This is exactly what I was trying to convey, but sometimes its like arguing with monkeys around here.
I believe the car is bad ass, but in my opinion not worth the money, lots of other cool shit for the same kind of coin.
I have no reservations that the 2K'R could holds its own against that new 'R, hell in those kinds of road course races the driver is key too.
