Piece of sledgehammer went through my leg.*sort of graphic

I was driving a pin out of an excavator. I was holding a spike hammer in the hole while another guy was hitting it with a 10 lbs sledge. A small piece about the size of a 22 bullet flew off and went through the back of my bottom left leg. Right where the muscle connects to the achilles tendon. It went through there and lodged into some more muscle above my ankle. The piece of shrapnel went 4 inches into my leg from where the point of impact is. Anyway, be careful hitting hammers with hammers. We've all been told the horror stories. Surgeon said hes gonna leave it in and for me to come back in 2 weeks. If it gets infected or if its rubbing on a tendon he'll go in and pull it out. Otherwise they'll just leave it there and my body with form a sack around it called a granuloma.

Who gets xrays for a flesh wound like that? Pour some whiskey on it and get back to work.

Had a piece of a hammer go through 2 shirts and stick in my stomach. Mine was not that bad though as I pulled it with a pair of pliers and finished what I was doing.

That had to burn/sting going in, its crazy to think they'd just leave it in.
I was using an air hammer with a chisel bit to remove a bearing race that had seized itself to a spindle. I'm squated down, have my safety glasses on hammering away when I feel something sting my lower area, I stop and go to stand up and feel a stabbing pain, waddle my way in the bathroom, drop my drawers and pull the shrapnel from my scrotum

Years ago, I was trying to beat a ring gear off a carrier using a ball peen hammer. A sliver of that hammer is still lodged just above my eye to this day. Thanks for letting me know what the sack that formed around it is called, heh.

Technically, it's a granuloma only when on the lower leg, if it is on the head, it is called a nutsack.

The Greek meaning of Granu is lower, and loma is leg, granuloma, lower leg. Spray some Windex on it.

When I worked on the 49HR drill at work, I was working on something next to the machines A frame that's pinned on the mainframe by probably 4" round x 1' long heat treated pins. Big suckers. Co worker that was driving the pins in with a sledge hammer got hit in the arm by multiple pieces of shrapnel when part of the pin exploded. Looked very similar to your injury except a couple more places. I hope I never see that happen again....
