Is it chicken or a vultur, or what? Tasted a little like chicken but we were convinced that there is not a chicken within a thousand miles even a 10th of this size. Turns out it is a turkey leg. Just not as big or dark. But tasted pretty good. I just haven't seen any turkeys around here though.

Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Didn't matter though. Even after fueling it up it still died. Thank God, the hotel owner replaced it at lunch and it seems to be running stronger. We will see. After all, this is Africa.
I just turned the ceiling fan off in my office because it was getting too cold. Have fun buddy!

Funny. Our fans have very flat blades so they suck at moving air. It is cooler with then fan off.

I'll never be able to get that dark or be that thin though.

In my experience the ones that only do it for the money don't last all that long. If you can control yourself and enjoy the challenges, you can do really well with contracting in that or similar situations.

Personally, I enjoyed the ability to make a difference for the guys who were really in the crap. If I were still enlisted when I was a contractor at best I'd be an E7...MAYBE E8 and the end of it all...most likely an E6....As a civilian contractor I had the ability to communicate with O-6s and below openly without worries about recourse for not using proper protocol...etc..etc. (Show respect as you would any employer/group, but I could speak openly) As for execution of job duties, I did not have to ask permission 20,000 times a day and could just get crap done.

I guess after being an E4 and not being able to get anything done other than policing cigarette butts and then basically a year or two later going as a civilian - it was rewarding to get be able to get a lot of stuff done and make other lives easier/safer without all the crap of being an enlisted troop.

                      That's my perspective.

It is a little less than I made in Afghanistan because I "work" 7/10s here instead of 7/12s in Afghanistan. I'm also missing out on roughly 20% salary uplift (on first 40 only) since Africa is classed different than Afghanistan was/is.

But it is the opportunity of a life time. To make a good living that allows me to provide for my family to where my wife can, hopefully, go back to school, is why I do it but the world experiences are a big plus too.
