    Like I said, if you are traveling fast enough forward the tail fin is angled in such a way to allow it to act as a control surface that can manipulate the yaw of the aircraft by adjusting the speed. You can do a run-on landing using this technique.

      I'd be very interested to know which make/model of helicopter that is. None of the dozens of makes or models I've worked with had any kind of tailfin that was, in any way, considered a yaw control surface. Aerodynamic fairing? Sure. Flight control? Absolutely not.

        Assuming the drag was sufficient to keep the body from rotating, wouldn't that cause massive drag and lower airspeed?

                The speed that it would have to be rotating for drag to become an issue would have turned everyone inside into silly putty by then.

                    I know the find in a Schweitzer 300 are designed more to keep the tail rotor from going into vortex ring state by deflecting airflow to the tail

                      Vortex ring state in a vertical tail rotor? That's an odd concept. I really don't see how the tiny fixed surfaces could do anything useful in a loss of tail rotor authority scenario though. I can see how they might channel a small amount of additional flow to the tr in forward flight, but it couldn't be much.
