  • 4x4 Conversion

I'm still working to edit this video, but couldn't wait to share the progress. It's my first go at it. Let me know what you think. I'm working to compile a list of parts that were needed for the 4x4 frame swap.

Pretty cool time lapse of your work. I have a stupid question though, mainy because i have a gas engine, but why not swap to a 1500 4x4 Frame for the weight savings. Can the 1500 frame not support the diesel, I mean besides the suspension components

I never really thought about it, but a 1500 should work. I pull a 5th wheel with this truck so I want the heavier brakes and axles.

I applaud the work but I would have just bought a new truck

Yeah I can see that. Just wondering if it could be done on a city truck

Yeah but buying a used car you never know what you're going to get. With this truck I think he can pretty much say he has built thr whole thing and knows every nut and bolt

That's the justification that I used to talk myself into it. All in it cost me $7k. The gearboxes, axles and suspension were all redone. The motor was left alone.

There was quite a bit of frame prep that wasn't captured along with some of the finishing work, but from start to finish it took around 6 weekends.

The frame was coated and painted along with all new suspension components. POR15 was used as for the coating and it was painted semigloss black with PPG paint.

The transmission and transfer case spent a week at the shop to be rebuilt, cleaned and painted. The original 2wd NV5600 was converted to a 4wd unit.
