              Yeàh fracking as we know it today (combination of directional drilling, long laterals, and multi-stage frac jobs) was basically proliferated in the Barnett Shale by Devon Energy, who bought Mitchell Energy for their developing frac technology - Mitchell had really pioneered the tech and had been doing most of the wells in the Barnett since the '90s.

              Vertical wells have been fracked since the '40s but the "unconventional" part of the data for the gif basically means very specific drilling and production techniques (horizontal + pressure pumping)
