There is alot of that in the midwest. Its how they tried to solve bank erosion. Same reason they use pulled concrete now.

The river i tube down on 4th of july has cars in the bank like that.

Bryson City, NC still has most of theirs in place. Kind of cool to look at, and none of the cars were good when they put them in place.
