Ahh gotcha. He also calls them tie wraps. He says, just because they make the sound 'zip', doesn't mean you can call them zip ties... *shurgs*

I've heard them called all of the above before, but most people I know call them zip ties. They zip all the time, they don't always tie cables. Therefore I will call them zip ties.

Our replacement rate on those cables over time is...well I think I've seen it done maybe 5-10 times. It's been an evolution since we started doing them that way in 2006 (far less cables), but needless to say 130k servers later we must be doing something right. To be fair that is a super dense row. Our typical rows are a bit less cabling.

And this is why I love me some blade servers with 10GbE and a boat load of virtualization.

Absolutely when you're in an enterprise environment...that makes tons of sense. If you know your application and what its requirements are, then its easy to scale appropriately on that type of hardware and virtualized environment.

When you're serving the masses, blade servers are nothing more than boat anchors that draw too much power and don't fit the needs of the consumer base (typically). I'm not going to say we don't have them, but we're much more inclined to virtualize on a super dense bare metals box with external storage than a blade server. 1144 cores to a single rack add up nicely

I've seen them in person... very nice data center in there Eric. Tony gave me a little tour while I was there.

Looks a little too thick for water.

It does look like a Pentofrost bottle, but Pentofrost has distinctive colors, blue being correct for a Mini/late BMW.

                              • Damn.... wish I could show you pictures of the data centers at my place of work out in Fort Worth..... They resemble this picture but with more rooms and the machines, cabling, etc, are all enclosed. Super cold in the front of the racks, very warm behind them. And of course, ear protection is suggested..... Amazing amount of power..

I've seen RACKS AND RACKS of these bad boys
