    • I would have to start a whole new thread for IT disasters that I've had to go in and fix. My favorite was the wire splice that a guy did to the main internet feed by using 8 individual snap connectors to splice two 3 ft cat5 cables together.

He didn't want to spend money on a network cable "he didn't need".

Sucks for him - he coulda bought a $5 cable, but he spent $130 + a $10 cable for me to come out and fix it.

Would agree for stuff that changes often, but that stuff is pretty much set in stone for years. Hell swapping a switch is easy when you just push the bundle right back into the ports

Sure. I was in Slovenia last year and ran into this guy that had one hell of a stash of guns hidden away. Years of collecting along with his own private stash from the war with Yugoslavia. Here's as much as I could find from the quick tour we got (the room was maybe 6x6).

I was absolutely and utterly shocked what this guy had hidden away behind a damn sheet on a wall. He pulled that back and there was a door with a biometric lock. To be honest, the floor had thousands of rounds of amunition along with plenty of other "less interesting" weapons. The Vickers and Maxim were...impressive to say the least. Holding the MG42 even for nostalgia was by far one of the coolest things I've done to date. Too bad we couldn't fire it

According to BICSI standards nylon tie wraps (zip ties) should be avoided. The recommended cable binding practice should be done with hook and loop style fitted loosely.

Yeah hook and loop doesn't work when you go that dense nor how fast we scale. The time involved to cable each bundle would increase exponentially.

Our replacement rate on those cables over time is...well I think I've seen it done maybe 5-10 times. It's been an evolution since we started doing them that way in 2006 (far less cables), but needless to say 130k servers later we must be doing something right. To be fair that is a super dense row. Our typical rows are a bit less cabling.
