All of those roles are filled by the prevalence of very cheap, fleet duty pickup trucks. Not to mention that spending $500 million+ (give or take) to develop a vehicle to sell at low margin fleet prices with the hopes that there would be a little bit of spillover (10,000 units a year, at best?) isn't going to fly.

And no, it wouldn't. That sounds great on an internet forum full of people that like that kind of shit, but it's not even close to a viable real-world idea.

I still think it would do better than expected. The sales numbers for the original Cherokee never really hit a slump. I think that getting a no BS SUV back out there would go a long way to reviving the joke that Jeep is becoming. Take a look at the sales numbers, it seems that when Jeep moves away from the rugged model they had for so long the sales suffer. Even though they recently set overall sales records, sales of even the Wrangler didn';t match that of the Cherokee in past years.

Uhhhh, they already have those, for the rural postal carriers I generally see either grand cherokees or wranglers, and for oil field and forestry service work you'll see 3/4-1 ton trucks most of the time.

The old Cherokee was used pretty heavily back when it was produced. It would be reasonable to assume that if a SUV was built that had a proven track record with some mild updates it would fill those roles well.

I would buy a solid axle Cherokee for sure.
