We had an officer like that in my neighborhood as a young kid in Dallas growing up. Actually two of them. They used to stop in the local park, just walk around out of their squad car, during winter one year we had snow so all of the kids were out having a sno-ball fight, they were making their rounds in our beat and they got out of their car and they joined in our sno-ball fight, we bombarded them and they retreated to their car all covered in snow they were laughing the whole time, it was a fun day.

Later that year in the summer, he went to a domestic disturbance in our area and two thugs beat him almost to death. We didn't see him for months, but when he did come back, he was never the same, that was a sad day...
