Theres a lot more force on a diesel(compression ignition) engine then there is a spark ignition. Diesels run some where between 16:1-25:1 compression ratio compared to spark ignition thats in the 8:5-11:5 range. What that means is that the compression ignition has a lot of force behind it and requires a stronger design/material. In order to strengthen the main caps Perkins engineers used a through bore design instead of a split cap design to increase stability.

I guess I should have been more sincere in that it was very interesting and I watched the entire video. Not that I'll ever build one but it was very informative. I've rebuilt may sbc mills and the last several years my Mod motors. I'm into it, while not really being into it. Thanks again it was a cool video...

Yeah, fuck those things.... Actually Perkins in general. I've only built two Perkins engines.
They are pretty much throw away motors around here.

To answer the question at hand, it's to strengthen the retarded thin block. Or it's just because British engineers like to make goofy shit. EDIT, just found out that these engines are manufactured by sbarro(sp) for Perkins then sold to cat. Lol.

I'll stick with my gas 3300s and 3400s

Sorry, poor attempt at a joke based on your Cummins experience.

I have an older gopro but it needs a new battery. I was just using my phone and it sucks with close up stuff because the f'ing camera focuses on the thing thats not in the middle of the screen.

Strychnine would probably like this video better.

These hubs are off of the skid steer that needed $8,000 in repairs.

Is it a dbag move for me to post these vids in the pic/vid section with a new thread every time? I plan to make a lot of vids but I dont want to piss everybody off. I started putting them in my advertiser sub forum but none of the advertiser sub forums get much traffic. What do you guys think? I talked to Tyler yesterday and told him that I starting the videos so people could see what type of work I do because I think most people dont really know what type of stuff I can work on.

                                Garage is probably most appropriate!

Realistically, it probably doesn't really matter. The smart people use 'New Posts' anyway!
