  • Caterpillar skid steer 227b engine rebuild vid

The motor is out of a Caterpillar 227b skid steer. The customer bought it with a bad engine and had me pull the engine to rebuild it. I hope you enjoy the video.

For those of you not wanting to watch the whole thing skip to 37:03 to check out the crank bearing setup.

Crazy. I never seen anything like it. I wonder what the perceived pros are to that design?

What do you charge to rebuild a motor? Is this the $8k skidsteer that was junk? I really want to buy a skid steer

Well that was informative. I guess I can store this in case I ever need to rebuild a CAT skid steer diesel motor...

No its not the one that needed $8k in work. Ill post a video about it when I get the parts in. If you(or any of the board members) want to buy one or a piece of equipment let me know and Ill come out a inspect the one your interested in or Ill keep my eye open for a deal for your.
My estimate for this job is $2500 labor to remove/replace the engine and a complete tear down/rebuild. I dont know how much the machine shop work is going to cost yet becasue they havent called me but generally it's around $800-1000 depending on how bad it is.

I try to order my engine kits from agkits.com. Guys have been great on the phone and they have good prices. This customer is ordering a Chinese kit off of ebay and giving me the parts. I dont mind using customer supplied parts but Im not going to warranty any parts failures if I dont supply the parts. In order for me to offer a warranty it has to be a manufactures rebuild kit or factory quality.

Probably a rare occasion that a board member would have a need to rebuild an engine like this one but I know theres gotta be other people that watch yt videos about stuff like this even though they'll never work on it.
The other reason Iv started posting videos like this is for people that have to replace a particular item and not necessarily rebuild the engine. As an example, pulling the injection pump off and replacing it can be a pita trying to do it with just a service manual. The one on this engine is simple but timing other ones can cause a lot of headaches for people. My other self servicing reason is that the video is monetized so I hope to generate some cash from the vids eventually. Im not trying to make a living off of them but id like to make enough to buy things to rebuild and make more videos or take requests.

I gotta ask, does that damn rooster piss you off every morning?

                          What rooster?

Kinda like living near a train. You eventually don't hear/acknowledge it. Kinda like a barking dog; "everyone hears a barking dog, except its owner"
Ronald Reagan:"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

Homer: "Bart...there's 2 things I know about women. Never give them nicknames like "jumbo" or "boxcar" and always keep receipts...it makes you look like a business man."

Somewhere around the first portion of the vid you hear a rooster going ape shit.

I can't hear the rooster in the morning. Doesn't bother me a bit.
