Me too. Without question, the 3 all-time coolest factory shifters are the Lightning Rods, the His/Hers and the Pistol Grip.

      god bless.
More of a precursor to the manumatic transmissions that have come out the last few years in the wanna be sporty cars. C4 ZR1's, had the extra key in the console to allow for partial or full power.

in 69 the gto went to a slap shifter, drop it in first and you could reach over and slap the shifter to the side for second and again for third. they didn't work all that well and only got worse as they got older. mine didn't work all that great before i did my 5 spd swap

That looks to be Verdoro green. Do you know whether that's the original color?
My bad its a 68. original color 80k original miles

I'm trading the 77 t/a for a 68 gto complete 400/400 motor and trans and 12 bolt rear all out of another gto guy did a ls1 swap its ready to drop in and go.

I do have the correct long block out of this car but its been sitting in the weather

I am not knocking your car in any way she is a very good looking car and looks like a very easy build, just trying to show some of the differences between them. check the vin a true gto has 242 in the vin code if that is not there beware of a cloned lemans. please post up with the build and have fun
Thanks for the info. 242 vin.

My 73 Grand-Am had a ratchet (slap) shifter. Mine worked pretty good. I didn't have to worry about accidentally pushing it into neutral.

There's one on craigslist that had a fire behind the dash pad. It doesn't look too bad in the pics. It could be a nice driver when it's done.

Edit. It's gone now. It was only 4500.
