I went to the Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona CA a couple of weekends back. I would have posted pictures sooner but my camera battery took a shit and I just now get everything back in working order.

Virgin America had tickets to LA for $109 so I figured F it, book a trip. It was worth it.

SoCal just feels like home to me. This is Redondo Beach.







There was a PEACOCK running around the streets in Palos Verdes.



But I came for the cars, and there are a LOT of cars in LA. Saw this '61 Dodge just cruising around in the middle of the day in Torrance. There was a clean, stock '60 Chevy 4dr sedan full of brothers cruising in Compton.

So one of the first places I hit up was the old Barris shop at 11054 Atlantic in Bellflower. There were some really cool dudes that invited me in and showed me the place. I was pretty starstruck, this is the place where the Matranga and Hirohata Mercurys were built, and where Larry Watson painted his new '58 Tbird.

Now it's a muffler shop on one side and full of custom cars on the other. They asked that I didn't take any pictures of the cars but they fed me lunch so that was cool. I got a few pics of the lobby.







Felt good to see the sign.

Rolled out to the Pomona Fairgrounds that night and got a little tour of the place. I got to meet George Barris and talked with Gene Winfield for a while. Yes I'm a name dropper. You might not know who they are, but they are the shit.





Went inside the History of the Customs display. They had milestone custom cars from all over the world at the show. I got to meet the folks that took care of Larry Watson in his final days. They signed a poster and sold me a shirt. It was all wrinkled up. The lady apologized and said that they had been under Larry's bed!! LOL!! I don't think I'll wash or wear it.

Next day went back to the Fairgrounds. HOLY SHIT there were a lot of cars and people there. There are 14 buildings as big as this one, all full of cars. The space between buildings and about a dozen parking lots were also full of cars.



Lots of beeches too.





And just a bunch of killer cars with the right stance and wheels, something totally foreign to most people in Texas.

That History of the Customs display was the SHIT. I couldn't believe all the famous cars and people there. Too much for words.

It was so busy that I didn't get a lot of pics. Should have gotten more the night before. But I can say that for just one second - ONE SECOND - I was the closest person in the world to the Hirohata Merc.

There were Mustangs and muscle cars and shit too. Everything, really.

I used to have a '66 Charger JUST LIKE THIS ONE. Except it was a beat down POS when I had it.
