New daily beater
This thread is exactly why I dread taking either of my BMWs in for the airbag safety recalls. It should be a 15-minute job to swap airbags but I have full confidence they'll fuck it up somehow.

It's why I roll my eyes at guys concerned with warranty on their trucks. IF the UTI flunkie doesn't manage to fuck your truck over worse than when it came in, they'll still have it for 3-4 weeks due to lack of diesel techs and/or waiting for parts
In 22yrs, I've never taken a vehicle to a dealer. Even the ones under warranty.

In 22yrs, I've never taken a vehicle to a dealer. Even the ones under warranty.
This was my fault, plain and simple. I knew what the issue was and I could have repaired it with some plastic welding. I just didn't want to spend one of my only days off dropping the entire rear sub-frame from the car when Audi said they will do it for free and replace it with a brand new gas tank and lines.
Me being lazy and also wanting free shit got the best of me and I deserve it. I know being lazy makes life unnecessarily hard and that NOTHING is free. If you want something done right you have to do it yourself. In my wildest dreams I never imagined they could make a car un-drivable just by stopping a fuel leak. I was expecting a scratch or a blown speaker.
Well I guess I did at least get the scratches since they used a screwdriver to scratch through the paint as they moved the carrier bearing around. So I got that going for me.
Also had I been more diligent in my search of the cars service history I would have discovered where it should have gone if I was forced to go to a dealer. Now I get to pay the price. She will sit for a bit.
I am not letting it get me down though as I do still completely love this car and with it being down it is allowing me to really go over and discover things about the car and get a better understanding of why things are the way they are. Working on the car to such an extent so soon in my ownership gives me a bond with the car. I know to most of you that sounds dumb but the two cars I miss the most out of everything I have owned are the two cars that I had to work on for 2-3 months before they were worthy of being driven. My Laser Red 96 Cobra and my 98 supercharged Mark VIII.
Taking these partially messed up cars and turning them into something that turned heads and others envied made me feel good. Making complex machines work and work better than they were designed to excites me. Thats why I do what I do for a living.
Alas I am rambling. I do hope to hear back from Audi of America tomorrow and with any luck they will send me the drive-shaft. Would be nice if they got the towing reimbursed and fired the person who worked on my car but chances are greater that Obama will stop lying and breaking the law.
If they don't do anything it wont effect my feelings on the car and I will just have to buy a drive-shaft. Not a big deal. Ive spent more on a drone that I never fly. LOLGood judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

I think you should rename this thread "The Audi Saga.""When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic." -Benjamin Franklin

From pink paint, rough running with missfires, slipping clutch and overheating to one of the most fun Mustangs I ever had. People kept trying to get me to just unload it but I saw what was there.
And the other I got a ration of shit for buying but when I completed it I had people begging me to buy it and ended up getting over $12k for it.
That was a tough old car too. Bought it and 20 hours latter an old lady backed into the rear bumper and split it with her scooter rack on the back of her Nissan and she took off. Took it in and had the bumper replaced and painted. On my way home from the body shop I was at a stop light and the bitch behind me was texting and failed to notice the red light and hit me at 25-30 MPH pushing my car into the intersection. There was not one bit of damage. Her bumper scuffed mine but plain wax 100% cleaned mine up. Her bumper on the other hand........

wouldn't ever happen. have you read this shit show of a thread? look at the second post, and this fool is still going 12 pages later. I'm just giving him a hard time since he gave me such a hard time about not letting him replace the ignition switch on my bronco. The car is cool. I just tried to warn him that he would regret the decision.

And not letting? Who the fuck do you think you are? You ungrateful fucking piece of shit! I offered to let you have the part at cost and was going to do half price labor because I thought you were a good member here. You couldn't seem to handle such a simple job I felt sorry for you. We set a time, I pushed back other customers so I would have a bay for you. I lost a $400 job because of that and you couldn't even courtesy call me to let me know you were not coming. You then did it to me a second time. I was doing YOU the favor and it cost me money trying to be nice to you and you acted like it wasn't anything.
You then tell me you did it up by you. So yes, I am a fool for thinking you were any kind of good human being.Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

I like to hear mechanic stories so lets hear it from you grease monkeys. Here are a couple from just this week. Interesting customer conversation. Customer: How much for brake pads? Me: I would like to look at the car first, free of charge. Why do you think you need pads? Him: Other shop said it needs pads. My pedal
