exactly, if they had been traveling a reasonable speed, he probably would have made the turn just fine, but when the first car was coming at 100+ he paused.

and the 2nd car that was already committing at LEAST the misdemeanor of reckless driving hit him

when you're expecting somebody to be traveling 40-50mph and they're traveling at 100+, it makes judging distances very difficult.

headlights aren't easy to judge like that. if it had been plain daylight, it probably wouldn't have happened. MUCH easier to gauge the speed of an oncoming vehicle in those conditions

I'd say both are at fault.
A DPD Lieutenant killed two girls who were making a left at Skillman and Church St while he was going 120mph in a patrol car to show off to a ride along who was asking him to slow down seconds before the crash. He was completely cleared of all wrong doing because he had a green light and how fast he was going had ZERO impact on who had the right of way. I lived at the corner of that intersection and was trying to render aid within 90 seconds of the crash but the girls were already gone it hit them so hard.

You just have to accept that most of what he says is a complete lie. A little bit of truth or fact every now and then, but mostly just made up lies when it involves him.

lol, I think at least 90% of everything he states is bs.

Unfortunately I have seen a lot of people die from crashes. It comes with driving 50k-60k miles per year and being observant enough to see the crash and caring enough to stop to try to help. One or two still bother me quite a bit.

Interesting. I have worked 100's of accidents and only seen two or three not make it. Maybe five or six department wide, two departments, 13 years.

I saw 4 killed in one incident in April of 2005 while driving back from California. An infant, two boys who could not have been older then 10, and the father. The mother was driving and was the only one who lived. The kids were not belted in, the father was but got a head injury and I heard the medics tell a trooper that he was as good as dead; his wife heard that and went nuts. Thinking about it makes me ill.

You're probably spot on, I just hate seeing left turn creepers and I'd bet their poor judgement and shitty driving is the leading cause of accidents at intersections.

And I'm not discounting the terrible judgement/driving of the speeders, they're morons too.

The driver turning had no time time to react to a vehicle traveling at that speed, as the human body has a very hard time reacting to something moving as fast the TA was. This paired with the humans natural failure of distance perception at night makes the reaction time of both drivers even shorter.
