  • Now the proud owner of an overgrown cavalier. 05 GTO.

So, the C4 vette has been busting my balls for the past two months. Started with lifters ticking, which led to a cam swap, which led to the motor destroying itself, which led to a JY motor, that also destroyed itself. Bottom line, I have so fucking had it with that god forsaken LT1.

Was cruising craigslist for a C5 when I came across an 05 GTO M6 with 189K. Miles are kinda high, but it really drives nice and the guy cut me a great deal at $6500. Got to say that I like the C4 style better, but for a daily, the goat destroys the vette. That LS2 is a nasty mofo, sucker will get up and go.

    Few pics before cleaning.

I've always liked these. I got kicked out of a GM drive event for driving one of these

I'm impressed by the overall ride quality and balance on the road. Way nicer than any of my other cars, Mustangs, Fbodies, Y body, etc. Straight line power is just night and day compared to the LS1. I always felt like I had to spin the piss out of an LS1, but not this one.

Always loved those. Looks were plain jane but the seats were so nice and they rode great and just sooooo easy to modify. Thats the exact color/option combo I wanted and i would have snagged it up to for that price. The LS2 dont care about those miles. Replace the rear main (would bet money its leaking), seafoam the fuel tank and intake, replace the fuel filter, synthetic oil change, change the rear end fluid, coolant flush and just enjoy it.
Good judgment comes from bad decisions and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.

I love the color on it as well. Yeah, the ride is impressive. I have service records dating back to when it was new. Always had mobil 1 synthetic. I will toss some seafoam into the tank.

Give it a half tank of super and then a half can of Seafoam. Then while the engine is warm take off the brake booster line and slowly pour the seafoam in it. Engine may stall, if it does than stop adding the Seafoam and put the rest in the tank. Let it sit 10-15 minutes. Restart it, will be a bit rough for a few seconds. After it smooths out rap the throttle a few times and watch your neighbors freak out. It will smoke like a mofo for several minutes.
I have done this to so many LS powered cars its nuts but it really does help out with some lost performance. Its the only thing I have used that does not cost an arm and a leg and does a great job cleaning out gunk from the tank and carbon off the valves. Plus eats away some of the oil slick in the plenum from GMs crappy PCV system.

Modular Fords make the biggest difference. Seen first hand cars with poor idle and mileage clean themselves up with a Seafoam treatment.

I had to seafoam my old Mark VIII motor in my 96 GT. Sucker looked like a mosquito fogger for a good 5 minutes.

Yeah. Fixing clean the block, drop in some bearings, and reassemble it. Then it's likely going up for sale.

Yeah, could be an overgrown grand prix. The styling kinda looks like a cavalier, a mustang, and an E46 bmw had a threesome and this popped out.

I finally got a clear stretch of road to really open it up and holy shit is it a rocket. Way faster than both my LS1 fireturd and my C4. Only gripe is throttle input lag thanks to the drive by wire.

Mine was fun, but I wish it was an M6 to row the gears. The torquer V3 cam really woke it up. The small rear tires that I never bothered to change were worthless for traction though.

Wheels and tires are an issue since you can't fit anything much wider than a 275. Coming from my C4, which has a freaking 315/35/17, that takes some getting used to.

Fuck the LT1. That's all I have to say. That engine is meant to make people throw wrenches in fury.
