The dog was the only one not to blame.
That's pretty much the same conclusion I drew.

I still hate to see someone's' companion shot dead. It's probably all that poor bastard had.
My opinion would be the same, I only watched the video once and did not really notice the dog was a pit. Maybe the cops would've acted differently if it was a lab doubt it though.

I do not know what makes you such an expert on dog control, you're being pretty damned vague about your expertise and how you obtained it. However, it's like me thinking everyone is an idiot because they can't do basic IT functions and my idea of basic IT functions may be a lot different than yours.

The reality is most people cannot control/react calmly with a pissed off dog barreling down on them. Which is why most people carry pepper spray/guns/other defensive items when they think they may encounter a dog that is uncontrolled.

Again though, uncontrolled dog or not - it would be different if they were on their own property. If a dog is in the owner's house or yard, I generally feel the cops should be a little more controlled than a lot of the videos I've seen.

I suspect the outcome may have been the same if the cops had announced themselves earlier though, but it would've been a little more professional of them at least and they still would've been close enough to handle him.

Well, I've never seen one in the ghetto, so there's that.

He sent the dog out of the tent? Seemed more like the dog and owner were startled, and the dog reacted.

              I pretty much agree.

I deal with aggressive dogs on a regular basis. Pits are no worse then any other type when it comes to dealing with them. Fighting a dog is pretty easy if you have something long in your hands; a pool pole in my case or the shotgun in the case of the officer in the vid. All dogs will bite the first thing they can get to and I like to use a pole like a spear and jab it down their throat if needed. The muzzle of the shotgun would have done the same thing that I do with a pole. Been doing it for 13-14 years and the only dogs that consistently bite me are the little yap dogs and that is because I don't take them seriously when they become aggressive.

How many dogs would you say you've had to use those methods on?

                  The layup . . . .

One or two a year since I started in the pool trade.

I do feel bad for the guy. He probably found that dog wandering and starving and took care of it.

Agreed. Those dogs have never given me any reason to think they're worth two shits. From my personal observations, they seem to lack something that other dogs have, and I think it may be intellect. If you watch them, sometimes they will do some dirt stupid shit that I've never seen any other dog do. Sometimes to the point of suicide. I used to live in an area with very frequent dog dumping.
