There is a right of passage by joining any branch of service that can't be skirted around. If you don't understand that, you would if you went through it.

There are however levels of respect given to those in our military (past/present) that do the things other men won't or can't. This respect is in addition to general service.

I was a light armored vehicle mechanical in the Marines. I don't expect much from anyone for it. Hell, I think I had a greater impact and was in far greater danger as a contractor, at times. But the pay makes up for the lack of acknowledgement and I am/was 100% satisfied with that.

Anyone trying to pass themselves off as something there not is a weak person to me. Trying to play dress-up and pretend to have served is the lowest form of that.

Did you even bother to read the post that I quoted? He is the one that asked how I would feel if there was someone pretending to do my job.

This is an interesting opinion and I'm torn. You're not entitled to respect just for signing up and doing a job. It's something that should come naturally for a number of professions, but feeling entitled to it is dead wrong. It's why we have so many bad cops and it's the core of my argument.

The guy joins up and does his duty because it's important to him, is the guy that gets my respect. Not the guy that joins up and does his duty because he wants to feel feared and respected.

I'm with you on the pretenders being weak scum, but someone that wants to harass and assault them for it isn't much better.

It bothers me to see anyone in a uniform that is out and about and is not on official duty, whether they have served or not. It always drove me crazy when I was on active duty too, just seemed like they were trying to show off.

I'd rather them show off than some poser that can't even figure out a rank to lie about.

              missed the point...

Hell yeah I'm jealous I don't have a lambo bought by someone else. That would be awesome. Not hating on that a bit.

I however have too much integrity to lie about my profession and much more to sound cool to a bunch of people who I don't know.

              Back to the original post:

Having served this is irritating... by the end of it though I felt like the guy in the video certainly isn't "all there". I think it's good to make those people stop but it's also troubling that people "get off" or feel good about telling someone off like some of these videos. There are tactful ways to do this while educating the "poser" while still being respectful enough to realize that they are human and making a mistake.

I am proud to have served but don't understand why someone would want to lie about being in the service. It's not glamorous or going to get you any tail...
