What about the members who "served" that were only in for a couple of months and quit or got kicked out? I know one who used to tell everyone he was special ops after not making it though air force basic.

They can claim their valor right?

Sounds like your buddy can claim a throat punch.

The fact is, you just cant fake it if youve never served. There's just too much jargon that you'd have to know. It becomes glaringly obvious almost immediately with most fake fucks.

This is probably my favorite one.

Three army rangers vs one guy = Yay, little bitch got what he deserved.

Three ninja hood rats vs one guy = Little thug bastards should have been shot on site.

Yes, the guy is a loud mouthed jackass, but he was also shitfaced. Just laugh it off and walk away, simple. Instead they act like high school bullies and smack the guy around. I respect what soldiers do, but I don't respect people like that.

Right. The Rangers I do know would have had a little fun with it, but handled the situation a little more honorably. Even intoxicated.

Besides, any idiot can see right through them.

I do agree that they shouldn't be allowed to get money or discounts by posing as a veteran.
Alot of vets are douchebags who think their service puts them above the average citizen, much like alot of cops act. While their service is needed and appreciated, many think they are special and need the recognition, and even look down on those who did not serve. Not all are like that, but alot of them do. And before anyone gets their vagina hurt because I am slamming vets, I am a vet but I am not going to act like a cop and protect idiots who do stupid shit. I have a ton of respect for the kind of stuff guys like Frost have been through, but I am not going to act like some guys who think working in aircraft maintenance makes them a bigger deal than the average Joe.

Spot on. That attitude is mostly with this current generation of military.

So you believe some one deserves less respect because they performed aircraft maintenance instead of a grunt ?

No, but I believe those wounded in combat, like Frost, deserve more respect than the average service member. I just don't believe that joining the military puts you up on a pedistool above civilians.

Pedestal no, but I have more respect for someone that served then someone that did not.

Very true, they are the ones that come across aggressive when asking about the veteran discount.

                          Interesting damn discussion.

I'm sure most people would be at least slightly offended if someone was claiming they worked in your field when they obviously didnt, and were blatantly lying about it. Especially when theyre seeking financial gain, or respect from the general public.
Imagine if you taught second grade, and your friend was claiming to be a second grade teacher as well, but couldnt even perform simple addition. It would be embarrassing and disrespectful.

The produce guy in my local HEB i believe is a faker.
In an Airborne unit you wear a maroon beret. You unit crest is worn on the beret. Jump wings are worn on your chest. This asshat wears a maroon beret with jump wings pinned to the beret. Under no circumstance would this ever happen.

Jump wings on his baret?!?! LOL! My 19 year old would have a field day if he saw that.

Fakers are pretty common in my profession (mechanic) and yeah it's amusing/annoying when they act like they know what they're doing. Only difference is that I don't chase them down the street, demanding that they put the tools down, or bitch slap them for doing "custom" wiring.

The attitude that these guys come off with is what annoys me more than anything. I've had a few encounters with active military and they all came off like arrogant tools.

                                I don't really think that's a good comparison.
