You have spurred me to look it up..

It was actually built in the middle of Detroit. It is the only plant left that is entirely in Detroit city limits. I actually drove by it a few weeks ago. I've been up in the Detroit area several times in the last couple of months running a few proof of concept projects for auto manufacturers.

The Camaro is too. At least for now. GM is planning to move that production back to the US for the next gen.

Of course the Mustang has always been Red, White, and Blue..

Depends on what part of 'American' you care about..

                1. People building the vehicle - American
                2. Location of the manufacturing plant - American
                3. Location parts manufacturing - 68% American as of 2012 (can't find newer info).
                4. Ownership - Now you're on target. 30% by an Italian holding company that has controlling interest, 10% by Scottish company, and so on.. By that standard, I agree...
                5. Location of corporate HQ - Milan.. again agree..

But honestly, I don't give a damn about ownership. Anyone can buy up shares and get the profits. 40% of the outstanding share are held by two groups but the rest are spread all over. There is no telling who gets all the profits. The same can be said for GM. Ford, however is still family controlled by their unique stock situation.

That said, why would anyone care about that anyways? The truly important thing here is that people in this country are building these cars. They make decent wages and thus spend their money in the US economy as well.

Now if we're talking about a Jeep Renegade (coming next month. built in Italy, based on Fiat 500l platform) then you and I will be in 100% agreement.

                  ^^^

Exactly, its being built here, by Americans. And like you stated, they are making decent wages and keeping our economy going. Same with Toyota trucks being built in S.A. and Honda in Tennessee I believe. I'm still not buying either, but if I did it would be one of those. I try and make a conscience effort to buy American where ever I can and cars are a huge purchase.

What was wrong with the GLK? After the truck is paid off, Im looking for a small SUV as a commuter car. Im tired of trying to swing my truck through traffic and the parking garage at work.

The main issue was size. The GLK was just too small for our needs. That got her looking more than anything, the Jeeps wide range of bells and whistles hooked her.
