I'm not going to rule out drugs as a contributing factor(though, I can't see how they could afford them), but if you watch that ABC interview, they both look sober and not strung out. I think they genuinely believe what they're saying. I guarantee she's been nuts from the beginning but, hell, he asked her to marry him on their first damn date, so he's clearly not all there either. Compound that with years and years of her "theories" and their combined general paranoia and there's no way they're even living in the same world as the rest of us.
