In 1/8th scale. I scored this kit a couple of weeks ago for a great price. I am hoping a basic build with a little detail will get me back into the groove of building. The inspiration is Brian Hobaugh's road race vette.

I won't be doing the fender flares or anything super crazy. I am shooting for a road race look without major modifications. The paint color will be GM performance red and it will get the matte black trim to help with the aggressive look.

Building older kits always poses a problem. The first one I ran into were horrible mold lines that had to be sanded out. The next was the headlights. The kit was designed so that the front and back half were assembled around a molded rod on the body allowing them to pivot.

This doesn't lend itself well to a flawless finished product. So, I opted to remove the molded bar and insert a tube into the headlights. I will drill holes in the body so that I can insert the bar at a later time to keep the headlights in place.

Once that was done it was time to start building some color. A few coats of primer and it is ready for the base coat.

I went with a white base coat to help give me a brighter red in the end.

The white will be left to sit for a day or two. Hopefully I get some warm enough weather to break out the airbrush and spray the red soon.

While the body was drying between coats, I started work on the engine. The block was sprayed with duplicolor engine enamel, the transmission with a mix of model master buffing metalizers.

The heads will be sprayed with alclad aluminum. The intake will be a custom piece as the kit intake is VERY basic. There will also be miscellaneous machined bolt heads throughout.

And of course, the gratuitous Dr. Pepper can for reference shot.

This is on top of my 24 gun gun safe, and the smaller car is a 1/24th scale corvette

Got started on the intake. It is nothing special and not modeled after anything. Just trying to keep it simple to keep moving.

Not really. I got some color on the body, but had trouble with my airbrush and it is going to need smoothed out and re-shot. We have been working on the house a lot lately, so time for the smaller projects has been non existent!
