Everyone needs to check into their insurance policy. most carriers want to use lkq or alternative parts.. I am insured with Safeco and made sure to pay a little extra to get the OEM endorsement on my policy. I recommend that everyone check with their carrier to see if they offer it.

This industry is changing everyday.. The carriers want to use the most cost effective way to repair a vehicle.. The repair facility wants to ensure we have as much business as possible and if you want to stay on their DRP program, you have to follow their guidelines. If I could use OEM parts on every car we repair, it would be great. But unfortunately that is not the case now days.
    Lkq isn't oem?

ScottMc, come on man. you have no room to dog any shops out..you work for caliber right? you should know this industry by now.. most, if not all of the technicians here in dfw have worked for SK and caliber at some point..
I have had to redo work for Caliber shops in my area and I am sure they have had to fix some SK cars as well..

Believe it or not...after the 3rd visit for the window rattle, I thought it was fixed....wrong!! Whatever they're rigging up in the door has come loose again and the rattle is back. I'm sure at this point, they're cutting what ever corners they can to "take care of it". I could be wrong but man, how is this so damn difficult?

What sucks is that I moved and the GP location isn't convenient. I may contact the nearest SK but I'd hate to pass the problem onto their shop. I really don't want to go back. Unfortunately, with all of my stuff in storage (and the cold weather), I can't really take it apart myself and just fix what needs to be fixed.

take it to the other one and explain what has been going on. They arent franchise or anything, it's akin to buying a TV at Best Buy in Arlington and taking back in Frisco.

are you referring to my policy? If so, let me clarify, NEW oem. not lkq.

            George,
Any SK will honor our warranty. What part of town are you in now?
Private message me your contact info. I'll look into this tomorrow morning and hopefully we can take care of the issue for you.

Oh, I see. Because the part that was damaged wasnt used before the wreck.like kind and quality unless you have the rider and want to pay extra.

If SK can't take care of you on what's rattling with your vehicles door, bring it by and we will look and see what's the issue. We're in Keller though, not sure what part of the metroplex you're in.

That's the way it should be. I will never take my car anywhere else.

Definitely take it to your local Service King, they should be able to take care of it. It sucks that the Arlington shop has inconvenienced you, though.

                          *takes a deep breath*

Your insurance company will use "alternative parts sources" for your repair, unless you have the rider on your policy as stated above. Some will use only original OEM parts on a very late model vehicle, some wont.

Aftermarket parts are very similar to any other replacement part, like a coil pack for your engine. There are some that are made better than the factory part, and there are some that are complete junk. When they stamp out a fender, new dies are used for the higher quality parts. Those dies get worn, and the tolerances on the end product get sloppy. The body lines dont come out as crisp, fitment isnt as nice, etc. After the dies are worn, they get sold to the companies that are producing the cheapie parts that you see at the ultra-low buck crash parts places, like certifit. They can buy the still usable, though slightly sloppy dies at a fraction of what it costs to have a die set made. The good quality parts are priced higher because of the higher cost of the dies and the QC processes. - Interesting side note, I got to watch a cell phone video taken buy one of our buyers at corperate while I was there, he took it on a tour of one of the plants in asia somewhere. The parts popping out were sorted after the stamp 3 ways. Two were aftermarket, one of those being a CAPA, and the other went into a Honda box. Same part, produced at the same time.

CAPA is a certification process, so that sticker on there *should* mean that it meets or exceeds oem standards. Distributors pay extra for that testing, and certification. It's expensive. Generally the CAPA certified parts carry a bit of an extra cost because of that. Since it is expensive, and each sticker has a cost associated with it, the same run of parts may have a batch of capa and a batch of non capa in the same run. So same part, one certified and one isnt. Just because it isnt certified doesnt necessarily make it inferior, but it gets harder to tell. I may have 4 different lines of a fender available for the same car. 3 of them may be the same part in a different package, and less a yellow sticker on one of them. I also have a line of the cheaper cost stuff that is made at the end of a run rather than the first of the run. Again, it's all about the cost of production. I do know that there are counterfeit CAPA stickers out there, so if it sounds too good to be true, it likely is.

Recycled parts are and should be a viable option for a repair. They are what the car was produced with from the factory. Some insurance companies want a part that came from a car that is same model year or newer and/or lower miles. Some want the cheapest price they can find. I get a kick out of people who scream OEM when the insurance is repairing a fender bender, but want a used engine to save a buck or two at the mechanic.

Ive been in this industry a while, and Ive seen really nice repairs, and Ive seen some trash, too. A quality shop doing quality repair work with quality parts puts out a quality product, just like anything else.

State Farm took one look at it and said totaled and cut me a check for 48k. Allstate tried to send me a check for 15k to repair it and claimed it was 30% my fault their customer ran the yield sign.
That mirrors my opinion of these 2 companies. When I was 19, I bought a Formula 400 Firebird and was looking for insurance. I met an Allstate agent at booth in the mall. When I told him my age and what car I had, he immediately said there was no way they would insure me. I swore then that I would never use Allstate since they flatly refused my business. I've been with SF for almost 30 years now and have zero complaints with them. Well, except for paying them so much money.

i doubt they were going to cut the frame in half. ford services the front section.

the front frame section on a super duty is actually a fairly solid repair. yet to even see the part that gm offers for their trucks and suvs. done quite a few fords like that, but never a gm. more so because the gms buckle behind the rear lca mount.

and do you even opt oem bro?
