My '80 hatchback was built from an '86 SVO wreck, so it had all the drivetrain from that car (2.3 with .48 a/r T3, PE computer with 30lb injectors, T-5, 7.5 with 3.73s).

I put a K&N on the vane meter and used a stock Ranger roller cam in it. I was fixing it more than driving it. I was doing a head gasket about once a month and I put two clutches in it. I knocked about a dozen teeth off the 3.73s so I replaced it with a 3.27 8.8 from a Mark VII. That was probably at its fastest. Then I put a .63 a/r T3 on it and swapped the gears for 4.30s and that made it slower than stock. Oh well. I beat on it a lot and it was easy to fix. I miss it.
Somethink like this ? Its an 86 but I know what you mean . I have also had 3 turbo coupe t-birds . This one now has a front mount and all new tubes .

Hell yeah! You might notice the SVO side spats and tail lights on the early pics of my Mustang.

I've had Tbirds too! Everything I've had is ghetto though.

The TRX wheels and tires were uber expensive in 79.

Tires were $412 set wholesale and wheels were over $800 each from Ford.

The overboost buzzer was very annoying too. LOL!

All four tires are still mint on these wheels , and yes the buzzer is not a nice sound .

Yes you can. About $2k per set.

The bottom was just a piece of sheet steel since the SVO IC was steel there too. The system used 1/2" hose and an ice chest under the hatch. The pump was a 12v unit for an RV sink (running water). It worked as well as I needed it to, I routinely saw 30psi and it was pretty fast for a 2.3. Until I holed a piston...

I also had a TurboCoupe IC I used when I didn't want to run the LAI.
Haha, I did the exact same thing with the same intercooler on my Festiva, welded a plate on the top and re-plated the bottom, ice-chest in the back floorboard and a marine live-well pump. I was never able to test it at the track, it had horrible traction issues and even worse torque steer with the added cold air and boost turned up, I went from 9 psi non-intercooled boost to 23, which was about all the turbo would do.

Given today's tire technology and prices, that's expensive!

Given what they cost in 79..............

$412.00 in 1979 had the same buying power as $1,314.19 in 2010.
