I just found out my dad (whom is in assisted living) has some land out in East Texas. I drove by it last week and there is manufactured home on it and someone actively living on it. Looks like I have similar situation that I have to dig into. I got a property tax bill on it this month and it only lists my dad as owner.

The hits just keep on coming.....

Of course now this is a probation violation and it has a lot of publicity behind it. I'm thinking a judge will be more inclined to lock "it" up for a while..
But that was just her/his "government name". lol

If I remember right it's a holdover from the gold rush era of the mid 1800s.

This conversation is probably pretty close to how it sounded in the 1800s too.

Sounds like a great place to have a shooting range GTG.

Have you heard this story from here local just this week? You better get down to the courthouse and see what's up with a quickness. Someone stole this lady's house by forging some documents.

Weeks after a couple bought a home in Balch Springs, a woman shows up claiming she’s owned the property for decades and never sold it.

There is also the doctrine of adverse possession. A total mind fuck, but a legal option when you feel like being a piece of shit.

It goes back further than that and has involved man forms. Van Valkenburgh v. Lutz is the seminal case that discusses AP.
Pierson v. Post was one of, if not the first, major case regarding possession. Even though it dealt with a fox and hunting, it lays the ground work for property case law.
