I mean there's the physics obviously, but then the engineering that has to happen to take physics theory and put it into practice... Then the precision manufacturing, logistics, management, etc.

        Do you really know?

Because I feel that if you had any idea how fucking crazy even the thought and concept of rocket launches are and then you knew the actual success rate and number of launches every year that you would not say that.

As a matter of fact, yes I do know. I was involved with ICBM's... Space Command portion of the USAF...

and yes... we are a joke right now.

I'm an idealist. I think the fact that we as a country (or species, I don't know) have such a high success rate throwing things off then face our our planet with a bunch of semi-controlled explosions is pretty rad

But I suppose looking at the fact that the US govt is having to rely on private companies and have no options of their own is laughable.

                    Wasn't this mostly privately built?

I guess the next Dragon flight in December will be carrying an expanded cargo manifest.

You're lucky that hundred shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake!

Pretty sure it did blow the welds...

Unless it is really cold or under a lot of pressure, won't it be a gas?

Correct. In a wet system the "mixture" of gas and NO2 can pool, which is primarily liquid gas and NO2 vapor, so it's not technically the NO2 that is physically pooling, though it certainly contributes to the ensuing fireworks show.

I don't know that we have become a joke, but it is surprising to me that such a catastrophic failure can happen in this day and age. It goes to show that even the smartest humans with the latest advances in science and technology are still fallible. Makes me feel just a tad less insignificant
