Seems like Chevy's version of the performance package gives you more bang for the buck. I think if you bought a Mustang GT, skipped the premium package, but got the performance package, and then swapped out the wheels and tires for a similar width tire that the Camaro's package comes with, it would be an even closer match-up.
To be honest, I just don't like the looks of the new Camaro, and seeing as I would hardly (if ever) take the Mustang to a twisty track, the looks alone are the determining factor for which one I would sink my money into.

I wonder how much better the Mustang will do after ~5-years of refinement like the Camaro platform has had.
Taking it up a notch for the Chevy, that new Z28 is getting some killer reviews too, I'd imagine it's a helluva fun car. Sounds like basically the same as this one, but with the stouter power plant.
Personally I'm just not a fan of the way the Camaro looks....especially on the inside, but it sure seems to be a good performer.70' Chevelle RagTop

Put the same tire on both cars THEN flog them.
But I get what the comparison is doing, which is testing "as purchased".

I like the Camaro's looks. I was just never a fan of the interior. It is way to cramped for a car of its size. I just flippin' love the new Mustang. The interior is even nicer than the BMW I had.

It looks like the Camaro has larger and more aggressive tire choice which I'm sure helps with some of the difference, but it definitely looked more controlled on the track.
For as soft as the Mustang looks when pushed, the comments about a firm ride on the street surprised me.
