True. The kind with baking soda so it has some abrasive seemed to work the best for me.

The trick to making them last after cleaning is spraying a clear coat back on them. I've heard a UV activated acrylic clear is preferable but never used one myself.

I think how long it lasts depends on if they get wet. I did mine a week ago and they look brand new. It never rains here, so I expect it to last a long time.
