  • Gas explosion in Taiwan kills 28

Damn. If you ever see flame blowing out of a manhole it's time to get off that street.

A deadly gas explosion in Kaohsiung, Taiwan killed at least 28 people yesterday morning, combusting with enough power to destroy whole city blocks and lift cars onto the roofs of buildings. And now footage has emerged from local cameras, completely with terrifying pillars of fire.

The mix of dash cam and drone footage clearly shows the devastation and waste, and the panicked response of drivers, as they saw what can only be described as a towering inferno emerge from the street below them. It's still unclear what exactly caused the explosion, though a gas leak is the leading theory.

No matter what the cause, this sort of thing is exactly the kind of event you hope no city has to go through.

Didn't Mythbusters do a show on exploding sewers?
If you can read this thank a teacher. If it's in English thank a soldier.

My good friend in Red Oak was going to give me a acre next to his house. The only problem was a 8 inch gas line that runs under it at a weird angle. I had talked to several builders and they all said they could build around the line on either side. Somewhere in there a gas line took out a entire neighborhood in California. It was at that point I decided free was not always a good thing. As a matter of fact that line runs about 8 feet from his bedroom window. I don't see how they can put a easement on a line of 25 feet but then drop a line in that close to his house. The greater good right!
        Whos your Daddy?

Yeah, you are closer than you think anywhere. From Interstate main lines to gathering lines down to city lines. Fortunately down south they are newer, the problems lie in the older decaying lines.

This map just shows the big ones, 20-36" mainlines.
