  • 70th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprisng

Incredible destruction. A bunch of brave Polish men and women decided they didn't want to be pushed around by a bully anymore and decided to do something about it. It was unsuccessful, but at least they took down 10,000 Nazis. The city was however, destroyed.

The city must completely disappear from the surface of the earth and serve only as a transport station for the Wehrmacht. No stone can remain standing. Every building must be razed to its foundation.
—SS chief Heinrich Himmler, October 17, SS officers' conference

Warsaw has to be pacified, that is, razed to the ground.
    —Adolf Hitler, 1944

History was made and lost: one of the great dichotomies of our time.

I have been there. They rebuilt that square just like it was before the war.
