  • I'm going to cite you for unlawful use of horn.

Interesting video. Looks like the cop did some thinking back in his patrol car. I like the way he ended up handling things. In the last ten years it seems like everyone has gotten into this mindset that once you make a decision that you have to defend it to the death and can't change your mind, no matter how ludicrous it becomes.

This trucker, with a Guy Fawkes mask strapped to the passenger seat of his Navistar semi-truck, is not about to let police privilege-abuse go down on his watch. Apparently this Illinois state cop blew past time with his face in his phone, so the trucker flagged him down and gave him an earful.

The dash cam footage of the cop behaving badly (which the trucker says exists) isn't included, so the trucker could be overzealously taking the law into his own hands here. But based on the officer's reaction it sure looks like he knew he was in the wrong.

The officer starts defending himself by claiming "cops are allowed to use technology while driving," but reneges on that by the end of this impromptu interrogation and almost admits he was breaking the law.

If the unofficial rule-of-the-road is "don't drive faster than the cop," I'm not sure I really mind the police driving a little quick... but it's way satisfying watching this officer squirm and recite exactly same dodges and excuses everybody else does when they get busted.

Comments on the original YouTube video have already eroded into religious diatribes and angry ranting, perhaps we can carry on a more civilized discussion of what went down here.

That cop was alright in my book. It started out rough, but he seemed like a truly nice guy. If I was the truck driver, I would have shook his hand and thanked him for being nice to me.

A half assed acknowledgement of negligent actions is better than nothing. I would've at least thanked him for being somewhat honest.

It's like the cop bribed the truck driver with that inspection.

The cop started to act decent, but the truck driver was being a dickhead.

I just got home from a summer vacation road trip (~3300 miles in 2-weeks), and I've got to say that there are many (not all but a lot) of truckers out there that obviously think they have some entitlement above other travelers to in some way police traffic on the highways....saw way too many occasions of intentional rolling roadblocks, swerving into passing lanes, etc, etc.

I'm betting this guy is one of those people.

Every road trip I take, truckers are a constant source of ire. I honestly don't ever give them a single inch on the road, because they are constantly acting like assholes.

I don't know about policing the road, but we do have a unique vantage point to see what is going on around us and farther ahead than any car. I'm respectful on the road, but I also don't have issues climbing hills or maintaining a constant speed. There was a situation recently while coming into Cincinnati where the left lane was under construction and we were being forced to merge. As usual, every jackass was running up to the cones and diving in, resulting in the rest of us not going anywhere. So, I moved over and blocked the lane. Within a minute, the left lane was clear behind me and we were all moving at a decent speed.

Most of us are trained individuals who spend a lot of time on the road. We're subject to a lot more regulation than the casual driver, and we are constantly (and randomly) under review. Yet we watch people do stupid, and often, scary stuff.

That being said, Eric is right that there are exceptions in any group. Some truckers just enjoy being dicks.

Yup, that's how I am after a few road trips recently. Having something with lots of power is an advantage. God help you if you're hauling something, or if they know your rented truck has a governor! Truckers will make your life hell.

If I'm on the freeway and there are two trucks in the right lane, I am in the fast lane, and there is no other car for a mile in front of, or behind us, and I'm coming up on them at 20mph over what they're doing, and they suddenly decide now is the time to pass at 1mph faster, which happens to me on EVERY trip I take, then yes, they're fucking dicks, cunts, fuckfaced morons without a shred of common courtesy, and their dismembered bodies should be hung from the nearest bridge over the fast lane as a warning to other shit for brain mouthbreathing douchefucks of their ilk.

My Daddy was a trucker and I got to take a couple of trips with him. I was amazed to see how a full size station wagon could just cut over in front of him with no warning and that whole car became invisible in front of that long nose Freightliner. Part of me always tries to give the trucker benefit of the doubt that they are good guys like my Dad who saw themselves as "shepherds" of the highways and helping people when they could. Of course I have had my share of jerks in trucks. Had one on 20 headed toward Tyler once. We were doing 75 in the left lane and he comes up on me fast, but there was no place for me to get over and let him pass and I didn't see the rush for me to get out of his way. Twice he held back and came charging at me and the 2nd time laying on his air horn. I relented and got myself over cutting closely between two cars. Man, I was pissed. I clearly had family in the car and he seemed to be willing to ram me to get me to pull off. I see it a lot with asshats in brodozers and farm trucks.

The worst truckers I notice are gravel haulers, they are always in a rush coming inches from other cars bumpers, taking turns to fast and generally being unsafe.
