      Hmm.. This didn't surprise me:
He also said he and his wife purchased home insurance, but they just found out it doesn't cover earth movement.

Me either as most HO's insurance policies do not cover earth movement.
Tons of California homeowners get denied all the time for not having earthquake insurance coverage either added as a peril to their HO's policy or adding a separate policy.

Very sad story, I feel bad for the homeowner, but I also know that I would not ever even consider purchasing a home on a cliff over a lake.

Hello there banker, I wanted to let you know that I wont be making any more mortgage payments on the lake house. No sir, feel free to forclose on it if you want, we arent going to fight it. No sir, Im pretty sure there wont be a possibility of a short sale on this one. Yeah, half the house fell in the water, and the other part burned to the ground. Oh it's terrible for sure. No, there isnt any lot value either. Well it's at the bottom of the lake too!
I foresee this conversation happening pretty soon.

There are going to be so many lawsuits in the coming months. I always find it interesting watching shit like this play out.

And while I'm an asshole, I'm not heartless, and not a liberal. I feel bad for these people. Damn. That fucking sucks.

When we were having all those earthquakes last year. Earthquake insurance wasn't even available to us anywhere.

They didn't build that house. Somebody else made it happen.

We have Mine Subsidence insurance up here. So many houses settle and crack bad because of the tons of mines underneath the land here. They have to offer specialty insurance. Normal Homeowners wont cover you. It is offered by the State.

I wonder if flood insurance would cover it? I mean, half the house did go in the drink...

The government has no business being in the insurance business.

I know you're kidding, but no. If the claim is caused by something that isn't covered, you're screwed.

I agree, but what is the alternative?

The only reason the government ever gets into any business is because it isn't a viable business to be in.

Healthcare is a very viable business to be in. Well, was... It won't be after the Gov gets done with it.
