  • What kind of snake is this?

*Precursor: I am ready for the ass-hats who come in to say "a dead one" or "Texas rat snake" . It might actually be a Texas rat snake for all I know.

My mom's friend found this at her lake house near Austin, and I can't tell what it is. Obviously lives in or near water, was just a tad over six feet long. Do you know? Sorry in advance for the large pictures.

It definitely looks like one not to mess with. Maybe a copperhead

Looks like a broad banded copperhead that's getting ready to shed it's skin. Definitely not the typical copperhead you see because it lacks the hourglass pattern.

Yeah, all joking aside, that is no rat snake. My vote is a copperhead too.

I live on a bayou. We've had a few copperheads over here in the past few years. There are lots of different color variations, but I wouldn't feel bad about killing that thing

Sorry, fixed the first link which shows its head. That's the main reason I didn't think it was a copperhead, because of the round pupils.
